food sticks to my cast iron pan?
I bought it at walmart, took it home and scrubbed it with a steel scrubber. I dried it and put it on the burner on low and put some olive oil in it.
I made some scrambled eggs and they sticked to the pan and had to scrub it off with a sponge with a plastic scrubber on the back. I had to use dish soap to get the eggs off.
So what am I doing wrong? It’s not supposed to be sticky.
You have to scrub it with steel scrubber to get the wax coating off. I’m asking how to properly cure it.
I use shortening and rub it all over the pan, then bake the pan in an oven at 250 for about an hour. take care not to wash the pan in soapy water. never dunk the pan in a sink full of water, just wipe out carefully with a rag and more vegetable oil or shortening.. seasoning a cast iron pan takes time so you may have to repeat the first part more times.
