Homemade laundry soap for HE machine?
I have a HE washing machine and I want to try to make my own laundry soap. Does it matter what kind of bar soap I use or can I use a cheap one? What’s some of the better bar soaps that aren’t too high in price? How much should I use? Thanks.
I’m sorely tempted to try the recipe below myself. And I have an HE machine. It seems that none of the detergents seem to really clean well anymore. I use more stain treatment products than detergent, I swear!
Yes, HE machines require less so I would just use less of the home made stuff and see how it goes. Using white vinegar as your fabric softener or “bleach” will prevent any build up of product, store bought or home made also.
And my appliance guy recommends running one load per month with hot water and dishwasher detergent. Pick something that you don’t care if it gets a little bleached as dishwasher detergents do have chlorine in them. I usually do shop rags, dog bedding and that kind of stuff. This cleans out your filters so you don’t have any issues and helps kill any mold and funky stuff in your machine also.

Soapmaking is a process of adding fats and alkaline (either potassium hydroxide or sodium hydroxide) and it going through a saponification process. Please read the links I have provided you with as the information is extremely lengthy and comprehensive.
P.S. There is also soapcrafting not to be confused with soapmaking. Any time you take melt and pour soap that you heat up to melt, that is not true soapmaking. Also you will not be crafting a very good quality soap. Most of the melt and pour soap is terrible!
