How can I make soap from ashes and fat/oil?
I want to learn to make it just like they did in the old days without the chemical lye they use today. And eventualy with natural fragrances and addatives.
Please don’t include recipes made with sodium hydroxide and blah as I’ll probably give you a thumbs down for not reading my question properly! 
Yeah that’s what your BEST natural soap is made from.
All modern soap is still made with fat/oil (most likely low grade) and mixed with highly corrosive chemicals which ARE bad for you and the environment.

5 Ingredients To Cure Dry Skin When Making soaps!
Lots of people make soaps nowadays and for some great benefits. There are so many soap products out there that are harmful to our skin and our environment, even if they do seem safe

The nice thing about handmade soap is that you know what is going into the soap and you can add essential oils, or flowers and herbs that can help you fight your dry skin problems. There are no added dyes or perfumes and all the aromas are completely natural.
You can make soaps that have a so many different ingredients helping dry, sensitive and irritated skin. There are many different websites at your disposal to help you decide which are the best to use. You can use Aloe Vera oils in the soap itself to help with your dry skin, for example. If you purchase soap from the store that contain Aloe, you are going to pay more for it. There are many variety’s of ingredients you can use to help moisten and soothe your skin without costing alot.
Here are just some of the things you can add when you make soaps that will help with dry sensitive skin. They are in no particular order. A beautiful ingredient that can be added to your soap is Emu oil, which is made from the tallow of Emus. The great thing about this oil is that it can be combined with just about anything to make it absorb into the skin better. This oil won’t clog your pores like some tallow will, and has a natural sun protection factor to it. In addition to being hypo-allergenic, it is a natural anti-inflammatory. It will help heal burns far better than Aloe and is also used to treat stretch marks and scars.
You can make soaps using a variety of other ingredients as well. Oil is made from coconuts, as well as cocoa butter. Yes, this is basically the same bean that chocolate is made from, in fact cocoa butter is the by-product of chocolate making. If you add it to your soaps, it will give your skin protection from drying out. Avocado oil is rich in nutrients that are good for the skin, including proteins, amino acids and vitamins D, E, and A. Some things to note when using this ingredient is that is doesn’t have a long shelf life, so use it quickly. For those of you who live in areas where hemp is readily available, the oil from the crushed seeds have emollients that not only help with dry skin, but can heal burns faster.

Is it feaseable to make $300 a month by making soap?
We just ended up getting an unexpeceted expence, and since I already make soap for personal use, it it would be feasable to make a significant dent in our monthly bills by selling homemade soaps.
you can definitely make that much or more. wholesome, natural, handmade products are in high demand. everyone is becoming health conscious. the key will be to get the word out about your product and find a good vehicle to sell (kiosk at a mall, small space at a boutique, website, craft show, etc.)
i don’t know how long it would take to get things going, though… best to you!
